I'd like to tell you why they work. When I talk about essential oils to some people, they look at me like I'm nuts or talking about voodoo. In actuality, essential oils have been aiding and curing people long before the arrival of pharmaceuticals. Essential oils are the scent or essence of a plant. They each have their own chemical property. The different chemical properties can be useful effectively as anti-biotics, anti-virals, anti-mold. Additionally, they may have relaxing (anti-depressant), or stimulating properties.

Take for instance, Lavender. If you are going to choose one essential oil to start with, it should be lavender. This is one of the safest of the essential oils. Lavender is most effective at reducing stress because of it's anti-depressant and sedative properties. Lavender is also the most antiseptic because of its antifungal and antiviral properties. Lavender can be effectively used to help treat asthma and lung problems, skin infections, burns, and relieving muscle pain. Lavender actually numbs nerve endings to stop pain. Previously, I posted about a burn to my thumb and how lavender immediately took the pain away.

If you'd like to learn more about oils, please check out my website www.travelynnhealthy.com. I immediately applied Lavender essential oil. Shortly after, he went to bed. When I checked on him 2 hours later, the bump was totally gone!TraveLynnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09206243868152528202noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2038665382418147981.post-80544212432950985692007-09-06T16:56:00.000-04:002007-09-06T16:57:16.342-04:00Essential Oils in the airI just received my nebulizer today. It's a great tool to allow the essential oils into the air. I'm diffusing Thieves blend. My goal is to get rid of this chest cold. I believe this cold would have been worse if it weren't for the essential oils. I have been using Raven and RC and Thieves.

I have also put the oils on my son each night and so far he's has not contracted my cold! My cousin's daughter had to go to the hospital for croop. No one here was that sick!TraveLynnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09206243868152528202noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2038665382418147981.post-38853531981002806572007-09-05T17:12:00.000-04:002007-09-05T17:15:08.922-04:00Tea Tree Oil and AcneIt's been a while since I last posted. I've been busy searching for job opportunities. I had to write today because I wanted to discuss my zit. I woke up this morning and had an average sized zit right above the corner of my mouth. First thing I did was put tea tree oil on it. I only did it once and it's almost gone!TraveLynnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09206243868152528202noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2038665382418147981.post-57757379828602670802007-08-18T12:53:00.000-04:002007-08-18T12:56:59.142-04:00Burns and Lavender OilWell, I have another person testimonial for essential oils. I was baking bread in the bread maker. When it finished I went to get the bread out of the machine. The pot holder slipped and my thumb touched the handle which was freaking hot! My first thought was to grab an ice cube to soothe my thumb, but then I came to my senses and went and grabbed the lavender oil. After all, that's where it all started during the last century, anyway. I remembered that lavender oil was supposed to be great for burns.

Well, let me tell you, that is the absolute truth! Immediately, the pain subsided. After dinner, I applied the lavender 2 more times within an hour period. My thumb is back to normal without any scars or blisters! Awesome!TraveLynnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09206243868152528202noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2038665382418147981.post-52760956339007085232007-08-15T17:21:00.000-04:002007-08-15T17:24:24.168-04:00AutismI'm hoping to connect with other parents who's children are affected by autism and who are using alternative healing methods such as essential oils or homeopathic practices. Please contact me via the comment link so we can connect. I am very interested in researching other methods of treatment.

I have read a few books, but my son doesn't seem to have the food sensitivities such as lactose or casein intolerance.

I look forward to chatting with you!TraveLynnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09206243868152528202noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2038665382418147981.post-45839685507455031022007-08-14T15:37:00.000-04:002007-08-14T15:42:41.397-04:00Warts and Essential OilsI'm finally getting my parents interested in essential oils. At dinner yesterday, my father said that my mother told him that I'd have something to treat some small warts he has on the back of his hand. I did a little research and it seems that clove oil will do the trick. I will provide an update as to how the clove oil does for my dad!TraveLynnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09206243868152528202noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2038665382418147981.post-23302035540250625182007-08-10T16:21:00.000-04:002007-08-10T16:29:44.046-04:00Essential Oils and HeadachesI'm fortunate enough not to get headaches that often, but when I do I usually massage a drop or 2 of peppermint oil on my forhead. If I'm going to lay down, I'll put a drop on my temples. I found out the hard way not to put the peppermint oil on your face under your eyes - the fumes burn! Peppermint oil irritates mucous membranes, so do be careful around the eye area with peppermint!

Technorati ProfileTraveLynnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09206243868152528202noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2038665382418147981.post-6531917675562245892007-08-10T15:47:00.000-04:002007-08-10T15:52:22.201-04:00Essential Oils for SwellingI was just speaking with my friend Lynne who was the person who got me started on essential oils. Earlier this week she was getting dressed in a hurry and hit her arm on her moving ceiling fan (she's 6 ft. tall, so this is possible). Immediately, her arm swelled up where it was hit. She immediately put lavender essential oil on the tender area. Within a couple of minutes the swelling had subsided and her arm is fine!TraveLynnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09206243868152528202noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2038665382418147981.post-60118435485844844762007-08-09T17:34:00.000-04:002007-08-09T17:46:15.098-04:00Essential Oils and AutismIt's amazing how many children today are diagnosed on the Autism spectrum. My son happens to be one of them. At this writing, he's 2 years old and 28 months. We're fortunate that he only seems to be affected mildly. He isn't speaking. Well, he isn't speaking in English as well know it; he seems to have his own language. He is very intelligent though. He knows all his numbers up to 20 and all of the letters both lower case and upper case. He also can spell his name using blocks and also typing it out on the computer. His physical skills are excellent too. He can throw pretty accurately and he jumps on the skill level of a 4 year old.

One of his issues is sleep, or lack of it. He doesn't need much sleep. Never has. When he was an infant, he never got to the point of sleeping through the entire night. Actually, he never slept through the entire night until he turned 2. Because of this, I decided to go back to using essential oils. I find that if I diffuse lavender or Young Living's Peace and Calming blend, it provides a calming atmosphere before bedtime. I also apply a few drops to the bottom of his feet of either lavender or the Peace and Calming. He sleeps through the night nicely now!TraveLynnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09206243868152528202noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2038665382418147981.post-92183653756902841332007-08-08T09:17:00.000-04:002007-08-08T13:45:33.992-04:00Essential Oils and MolesMy first true test of the effectiveness of essential oils is in progress. About a month ago, I noticed an odd looking mole on my chest. I didn't remember seeing it before, so it concerned me that it was that noticeable all of a sudden. When I took a closer look, it was actually 2 moles that were right next to each other. I found a website www.oil-testimonials.com and read what people posted about treating moles with essential oils. This is when I decided to renew my interest. I placed my order with Young Living. The oil that seemed to work the best was Frankincense. I didn't have any on hand, so I needed to wait until my order arrived. Until then, I applied lavender essential oil. It seemed to stop the progress of the mole.

After the Frankincense arrive, I applied it at least once per day (this started around July 16th.) On July 16th I had the opportunity to attend a Young Living educational seminar in Scranton, PA. One additional tip they provided was to enhance any oil application, follow the application with peppermint oil. So when I received my Frankincense, I followed it up with a chaser of peppermint oil. My moles had dramatically reduced in size and also faded in color! I wish I had taken before pictures. The smaller of the two moles is almost completed gone!TraveLynnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09206243868152528202noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2038665382418147981.post-10854019776999202472007-08-08T08:47:00.000-04:002007-08-08T09:03:06.670-04:00Essential Oil Lovers Unite!I'm starting this blog in the hopes of connecting with others who know the effectiveness of using essential oils. I have dabbled in essential oils over the last five years, but have recently become more interested. Having a child diagnosed with a mild form of autism is what inspired my renewed interest. Additionally, I have never been a fan of pharmaceuticals. So if there's anyone out there who's interested in learning more about essential oils or creating a community to discuss please let me know. Otherwise I'll just be posting information I have and my personal successes with essential oils.TraveLynnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09206243868152528202noreply@blogger.com0
